AmCham Eyes $5bn New Investment in Bangladesh

The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) has expressed its commitment to facilitate and mobilize an additional US$5 billion in investment in Bangladesh over the next five years.

An AmCham Executive Committee delegation, led by AmCham Bangladesh President and Mastercard Vice President Syed Mohammad Kamal, met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

During the meeting, AmCham highlighted the contribution of its member companies to Bangladesh’s economy. The chamber said its members have invested more than US$5 billion in the country over the years and collectively contribute over 20% of the national tax revenue.

AmCham sought government support to create a predictable, competitive and investment-friendly business environment to attract further investment. It welcomed the government’s ongoing reform initiatives, including time-bound approvals, the Single Window system, digital tax and VAT administration, simplified customs procedures and improved mechanisms for capital and profit repatriation.

The chamber also stressed the need for greater policy predictability, reliable infrastructure and energy supply, and stronger public-private cooperation to boost investor confidence.

AmCham proposed establishing a Digital Economy Advisory Forum or Task Force and a Public-Private Competitiveness Council to identify investment barriers and support effective implementation of reforms.

The delegation also highlighted opportunities for deeper Bangladesh-U.S. economic cooperation in areas including technology, artificial intelligence, digital innovation, cybersecurity, healthcare, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and financial-sector modernization.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman welcomed AmCham’s continued engagement and recognized its contribution to Bangladesh’s economic development. He said Bangladesh has entered a new phase of economic transformation and assured foreign investors of the government’s support.

The Prime Minister also expressed commitment to strengthening policy predictability, improving governance and maintaining constructive dialogue with the business community to boost investor confidence.

During the meeting, AmCham invited the Prime Minister to attend the opening ceremony of the 30th U.S. Trade Show as Chief Guest. The event will be jointly organized by AmCham Bangladesh and the U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh.
